Hands down, the best thing about living in St. Louis, MO is the amazing network of wonderful and talented friends I have made over the years. One of them is Marie McInerney, an amazing person and extremely talented artist. Although we are both alums of the Kansas City Art Institute, we were there at different points in time and didn’t meet until we had both graduated and settled here in St. Louis. She combines her many skills to illustrate big, complicated, and universal themes that really link our humanity with our fragility…and she does it with such amazing precision and skill that she makes it look almost effortless. Equal parts textile designer, sculptor, metalsmith, fashion designer, and painter, she makes work that makes me think. And I feel quite good about being her personal photographer. Lucky, lucky me!
Check out these photos from her recent installation and sculpture project at Washington University, where she is a graduate student in their MFA program.
